Cloud Computing Growth and importance

A couple of years ago, cloud computing was seen as innovation which was unnecessary. Many experts had written it off as they considered it never to reach mainstream prominence. But things changed quickly after Google rolled out laptops based on cloud concept. With time, more and more companies moved to this latest technology and now it has become a necessity for people who have basic understanding about the concept.
What Is Cloud Computing?
For a layman, cloud computing involves usage of remote servers. Data storage and processing occurs on remote servers rather on local systems. Local machine gets connected to remote servers through internet and controls the process. This process resembles the precipitation cycle with remote server behaving as cloud and information being the water which either pours in or evaporates. You don’t need any hardware and all hardware or software are remote and remain connected through internet.
Advantages of Cloud computing:
Cloud computing has revolutionized the way concept of IT was visualized and has following advantages:
Flexibility: The primary advantage is that cloud computing offers enough flexibility. You don’t have to reconfigure or reinstall services again and again when your whole infrastructure is in cloud. You can get connected with any system around the globe. The only pre-requisite is an active internet connection.
Cost Cutting: When you don’t have any need for hardware or software licenses, it reduces your total cost of ownership. It helps to reduce your overhead expenses by 60% while on the other hand increase your productivity.
Cloud Computing Growth
Though being considered as a fad initially, late 2010 witnessed a spurt in organization and individuals moving to cloud. Companies like Amazon have created mass services which offer server architecture at affordable prices and is very difficult to compete. Now, video game servers are also handled by Amazon’s servers in cloud. Many other organizations like DropBox allow a shared virtual hard disk to store data. One can access files stored in DropBox from anywhere in the world. ChromeBook is another reason making cloud servers a hit as it moved entire Desktop on Google’s App Engine. ChromeBook only run a browser from which files are accessed via Internet. It cuts down requirement of hardware which means better battery life yet faster performance.
Conclusion
Cloud services are future of Information Technology and with time, these services will become so much affordable that it will eliminate need of standard machines in our homes and offices.
